Piano · Classical & contemporary

Piano lessons that build a real foundation

Live piano and keyboard classes, classical or contemporary. Technique and reading are taught in the right order, alongside the music your child actually wants to play.

What your child learns

Inside the piano course

Taught in the right order, one skill at a time, with live correction in every class.

Classical technique

Hand position, posture and finger independence, so playing stays relaxed as pieces get harder.

Harmony and voicings

Chords, inversions and jazz voicings, so your child understands what they play, not just where the fingers go.

Popular songs

Arranging and playing the songs they love, with both hands, in time.

Sight reading

Reading notation fluently, a little every week, until a new piece no longer feels like a puzzle.

The 12-class module

How the course is built

Twelve classes, each building on the last, with one clear practice target to work on every week.

Who it’s for

Piano, ages 6 and up

  • Beginners on a keyboard or a full piano
  • Children who want classical grades
  • Students who want to play popular songs and accompany singing

Not sure? The assessment class will tell you

Class length

Matched to age and goals. The instructor recommends one in the report.

Choose a class length to see who it suits

Short and focused. Young children learn best in short bursts, so every minute is spent playing.

Enough time to warm up, learn something new and play it through properly. The length most families choose.

Room for technique, repertoire and theory in one class. Best for older students and higher grades.

Questions

Piano questions

Do we need a piano, or is a keyboard fine?

A keyboard is fine to start. The instructor will tell you at the assessment class what to look for (size, touch-sensitive keys) as your child moves on.

Classical or contemporary?

Both are taught. Many students do a little of each: classical for technique and reading, contemporary for the songs they want to play.

Can my child take piano exams?

Yes. Piano students can follow the ABRSM or Trinity graded syllabus, with exam preparation folded into the lessons.
