Why most children stop

Buying the instrument was the easy part.

Most children who give up an instrument don’t lack talent. They hit one of three problems, and nobody fixes it.

Problem 01

No one to check and correct mistakes

Videos and apps can show a child what to play. They can’t hear what the child actually played, so small mistakes go unnoticed and get practiced every day.

  • Wrong technique goes unchecked
  • Posture and hand position drift
  • Timing slips without anyone noticing
  • Bad habits set in early

You can’t tell if it’s actually working

Problem 02

No proper sequence or curriculum

A child might learn chords one week, scales the next and a song after that, without anything connecting the lessons.

  • Skills aren’t introduced in the right order
  • Each class doesn’t build on the last
  • Concepts come before the child is ready
  • Gaps in the basics show up later

Effort goes in, but progress doesn’t compound

Problem 03

No way to measure progress

Without a clear curriculum or objective benchmarks, parents are left guessing whether their child is actually improving.

  • No clear milestones to work towards
  • No structured assessments
  • No outside standard to measure against
  • No written feedback for parents

Interest fades when progress is invisible

The hidden cost

Repetition does not correct a mistake. It installs it.

12 WEEKSWEEK 1A small mistakeWEEK 12A habit

Every week a mistake is practiced, it gets harder to undo. That is why every class here is live: the instructor hears it, and fixes it, before it sets.

The Seven Notes method

Built on a foundation, not a shortcut.

Live lessons, built on a graded pathway. Three things, done properly, every class.

We develop the child’s interest

Real music from the very first class

CLASS 1A REAL SONG
  • A real song in the first class, not weeks of drills
  • Songs your child chooses, alongside the syllabus
  • Small wins every week, so practice feels like playing

They learn because they want to play

We teach in the right order

Every skill builds on the last

  • One structured curriculum, taught in a carefully planned sequence
  • Each new skill is introduced when your child is ready for it
  • Live correction in class stops mistakes becoming habits
  • One clear practice target to work on each week

Nothing is taught at random

We follow international standards

Progress measured against recognized standards

I’ve spent 20 years on stage and in recording sessions, and I’ve taught more than 5,000 students. Most of the children who came to me after other lessons had the same story: they could play a few things, but nobody had ever corrected the basics, and nothing had been taught in order.

Seven Notes Academy is built to fix that. Every class is live. Every skill comes in the right order. And progress is measured against the same graded standards examiners use.

  • 20 years as a performer and session artist
  • 5,000+ students taught, across the six countries
  • Every instructor certified and trained in one method
  • RSL, Trinity and ABRSM graded pathways
  • Regular written examiner feedback on every student

“A child who enjoys the instrument picks it up on a Tuesday afternoon without being asked.”

How you start

Start with an assessment class

One 30-minute class with a certified instructor, and a written report the same day. No payment details, and no sales call.

How it works

  1. 01

    You book

    An assessment class

    30 minutes, 1-on-1 with a certified instructor.

  2. 02

    We assess

    A written report, same day

Readiness and musical aptitude, scored, with a recommended starting point.

  3. 03

    You decide

    Start the 12-class module

Or don’t. The report is yours to keep either way.

Nothing to pay to book

Class length

Matched to age and goals. The instructor recommends one in the report.

Choose a class length to see who it suits

Short and focused. Young children learn best in short bursts, so every minute is spent playing.

Enough time to warm up, learn something new and play it through properly. The length most families choose.

Room for technique, repertoire and theory in one class. Best for older students and higher grades.

Questions, answered

Everything worth asking before you book

What age can my child start?

From age 6. Classes are taught to students of all ages after that, from young children to adults, and the class length and pace are matched to the student.

Which instrument should my child learn?

The one they are curious about. If you’re not sure, book the assessment class and say so: the instructor will look at your child’s rhythm, pitch and coordination and recommend a starting point in the written report.

Do we need an instrument before we book?

No. The instructor will recommend the right instrument and size at the assessment class. You’ll need one before the course itself starts.

How are class times arranged across time zones?

You tell us the days and times that suit you, in your own time zone, and we match you with an instructor who can teach then. Classes run at a fixed weekly slot so practice becomes a habit.

Why are courses built in 12-class modules?

Twelve classes is long enough to build a real skill and short enough to keep a clear goal in sight. Each module has a plan, each class builds on the last, and at the end you can see exactly what changed.

Which exam boards do you prepare students for?

RSL, Trinity College London and ABRSM. Your child’s instructor will recommend the board that suits their instrument and style.

What happens in the assessment class?

It’s a real 30-minute, 1-on-1 class with a certified instructor. Along the way the instructor checks your child’s readiness (focus, following instructions, working independently) and musical aptitude (rhythm, pitch, coordination).

You get a written report the same day, with a recommended starting point. It is yours to keep whether you enroll or not.
